Thoughts on Life and Art

"Observations, flavors, ideas, visions, memories....be present."
~ Anne Lomott

This Newsletter will be shorter than normal due to the unexpected events of the last few weeks. I will share with you some sad family news, tell you about a whimsical painter who is the April Featured Artist who creates lovely portraits and very unique paintings! And we're still planning on driving to Baja!

I'm sad to tell you that my Mother passed away on March 24th. Earlier today, I wrote a blog post about her with some thoughts about art and life. Her death was very unexpected. She died from a stroke. We will miss her so much!

I love writer Anne Lomott's book, Bird by Bird, where she gives advice and speaks of her past experiences in memoir form. In it, she says "it helps to resign as the controller of your fate".

One has to admit, no one really knows what will happen next. Sure, you can control a certain amount of things but it is in this moment that we are alive! The rest is uncertain. I am reminded to live in the present and enjoy being here now. So live your dreams because you just never know what Life will throw at you! You can read my blog post at http://www.lgruger.com/blog

Our travel plans have changed with the events of the past few weeks. My Etsy Shop will be closed from April 26th through the end of June while we travel to Baja, Mexico and stay in Todos Santos for 2 months. I hope to be making some more art videos while I'm in Baja and can't wait to set up my studio there and start painting.

My Blog and Facebook Fan Page will still be active as I will have internet access every day we travel and while we're in Baja. I hope to have lots of paintings to share when I come back.

I'll be re-opening my Etsy Shop the first week in July and will let you know when it gets closer to that date.

You can still find my prints and cards at the Tumalo Art Co. gallery in Bend, Oregon. I just put a new batch of them there today!

Danielle Duer paints portraits of women in whimsical worlds with symbolic animals, detailed pattern and colorful shapes. She is my April Featured Artist. I found Danielle's artwork as I was looking for artists for my Whimsical Paintings website.

I love the mystical quality to her paintings. I find myself looking at them closer to find something hidden that I hadn't seen before...such as an animal face, or a beautiful decorative pattern hidden in the folds of a dress. Each painting has a unique atmosphere and personality. I am certain there is a story behind each face.

I'm getting to know Danielle through her Facebook Fan Page. You can too. I hope you'll enjoy looking at Danielle's artwork on her website: http://www.danielleduer.com. Enjoy!

l would like to take a moment to thank you for being supportive of my art, for reading my e-Newsletter, purchasing my artwork, leaving comments on my blog, joining my Facebook Fan Page, sharing my website with someone you know and more! It is all much appreciated and I think it is great when you can support living, working artists! I try to as well which is one reason I have the Featured Artist section in my e-Newsletter. I like to help other artists spread the word about their art and it gives you a chance to find out about other beautiful creations.

I'll be sending my next Art e-Newsletter from the sunny regions of Baja in May. So until then, I wish you full days of peace, inspiration, and renewal!
